Stop wishing, start doing
If I was as organized and as purposeful as I wished to be I would
Have concrete, achievable goals in the following areas:
- Career
- Health
- Relationships
- Home
- Spirituality & Service
- Creativity
- Organization
- Fun
Each week I would
- Assess my satisfaction with the various areas of my life and plan small, specific steps to improve the "weaker" areas.
- Update my "Master List of Things To Do" and choose One Significant Career Goal, and One Significant Personal Goal, to work towards UNTIL COMPLETION.
- Break large projects down into a series of small tasks.
- Check my calendar and get organized for the coming week.
Each morning (or evening before bedtime) I would PLAN MY DAY
This daily planning would include
- The time of all scheduled appointments.
- The tasks that have to get done,
- A Do-able "To Do List drawn" from my Master List
- Maintenance and Sanity tasks (e.g., exercise, laundry, errands, novel reading)
- A scheduled step towards my chosen Significant Career and Personal Goals
- Small tasks to balance and nourish the major spheres of my life
When setting goals and planning my days I would ask myself
- Will it matter in five years?
- Which tasks make me the most anxious?
- Which tasks am I resisting and why?
- Which task will make me feel the most satisfaction upon completion?
- What do I absolutely have to do? Today? By the end of the week?
- What is the best use of my time right now?
If I was as organized and purposeful as I wished to be...
Each day I would remind myself that...
Perfectionism is my enemy.
Small steps lead to big changes over time.
My life is made up of a series of todays.
